279 278 Omega “Automatic Dynamic”, Movement No. 29853251, Ref. 166.0039, Cal. 565, 39 x 41 mm, circa 1971  A gentleman’s almost as new, extremely rare wristwatch with date in an eccentric gold case of the early 1970’s - with Omega repair warranty Case: 18k gold, screw back, inclined bezel, recessed crown, 18k “Omega” gold bracelet with deployant clasp. Dial: two-colour: gilt and light grey, luminous indexes, centre seconds, window for date, signed, luminous baton hands. Movm.: rotorwind movement, pink gilt, ground, 24 jewels, Glucydur balance, shock protection for balance, index spring fine adjusting device. In the solid gold version, it is certainly one of the rarest Omega watches ever. We are aware of only six other exemplars. This exemplar is perhaps the earliest existing with a serial number from the year 1969. The “Dynamic Family” In 1967 Omega marketing manager Robert Forster conceived of an entirely new style of watch. Designed by Raymond Thévenaz, with a case by Italian manufacturer Fernando Fontana (Sesto Calende), the “Dynamic” family was launched in 1968 to a receptive audience. Its elliptical shape results from the first study of the way a watch sits on the wrist. In 1970 the “Dynamic” family was moved into the “De Ville” line, which is where Omega was concentrating its design efforts at the time. There it continued to be a great success, and as a result was launched as its own line in 1984, and again in 1997. The final incarnation of the “Dynamic” line was as a series of watches based on World War II British Military pieces.
