395 394 Louis-Elisée Piguet, Les Brassus, Movement No. 1911, Case No. 1911, 56 mm, 154 g, circa 1884 A heavy Swiss minute repeating hunting case pocket watch with quarter hour self strike, sold to Louis Audemars, Les Brassus (Movement No. 15367) Case: 18k gold, polished, gold dome, case maker’s punch mark “GS” (George Stockwell / Stockwell & Co. Ltd., Birmingham), pusher for repetition at “6”, lever for choosing between “Sonnerie” and “Silence”. Dial: enamel, Arabic numerals, auxiliary seconds, blued Breguet hands. Movm.: bridge movement, frosted, gilt, signed, 2 hammers / 2 gongs, Geneva quality hallmark, 2 barrels, tandem winding with mirror polished click on the top, gold screw compensation balance, counterpoised lever. Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, signed, blued spade hands. Movm.: 3/4 plate movement, nickel-plated, “fausses côtes” decoration, finely ground, bevelled chronograph steel parts, ratchet wheel, 2 hammers / 2 gongs, signed, gold screw compensation balance, counterpoised lever. Tiffany & Co. In 1874 Tiffany & Co. started a watch factory in Geneva, which lasted about 4 years (low production). Patek, Philippe & Co. assumed the management of their Geneva watch business. The Wendell family descents from Evert Jansen Wendell, who came to America from Embden in 1640; he is mentioned in the early records of the province New Netherland located on the East Coast of the country. Evert Jansen Wendell settled and became the founder of a distinguished family that is now one of the oldest families in the State of New York. Ten Eyck Wendell was born at Cazenovia in 1857; in 1880 he graduated as B.A. from Yale and received the degree of LL.B. in 1882 from Columbia College Law School.
