Cartier à Paris, "Tank Asymétrique", Case No. 2007/no. 1, Ref. 3021 I, Cal. 9770MC, 26 x 42 mm, circa 2007
An elegant, rhomboid-shaped wristwatch in almost new condition - this is the first Tank Asymétrique of the 2007 edition
Case: platinum, screwed on back, crown set with sapphire cabochon, 18k white gold deployant clasp. Dial: silver, flinqué. Movm.: bridge movement, Glucydur balance.
The case is particularly striking due to its asymmetric form and the fine lugs reminding the onlooker of a trident. The exquisitely engine-turned dial has blue Roman numerals and the typical blued Breguet hands.
The watch known as "Tank Asymétrique" or "Parallélogramme" in the late 1920 and as "Losange" later in the 1930s came with different dial and lug variations. It was originally designed for automobile drivers, which necessitated a wide range of construction types. This watch is the first from the reissue series produced in 2007; before this remake, a limited series of 100 platinum pieces had already been produced in 1996.
Similar watches are illustrated and described in Osvaldo Patrizzi, "White Cartier", Antiquorum Editions 2006, Nos. 171-173.
