A gold-mounted tortoiseshell powder box with enamel plaque and integrated, concealed watch, studded with diamonds
Case: tortoiseshell, gold, polychrome enamel, rose-cut diamonds. Dial: enamel chapter ring. Movm.: bridge movement, keywind, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance.
The watch is covered by a diamond-studded polychrome enamel plaque with a galant scene in a translucent cobalt blue enamel frame, showing a loving couple. The frame is ornamented with opalescent enamel pearls and paillon flowers. The hinged medallion sits in an octagonal gold plate decorated with engraved scrolling and a meander on sablé ground. A chased gold border decorates the rim of the detachable lid and base. The golden centre of the dial with floral engraving has a window with the open-work initials GR which reveals the movement.
