Lot 186

Geneva, 20 x 48 mm, 25 g, circa 1900
A fine diamond-set gold enamel pendant form watch with concealed dial designed as a scarab and corresponding chain
Case: 18k gold and enamel, French import marks from 1893, glazed movement. Dial: enamel. Movm.: bridge movement "LeCoultre", cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance.
The spring-loaded wings are decorated with translucent green enamel on engine-turned pattern and studded with old cut diamonds; the Champlevé style neck is set with diamonds. The diamond-set head and the hinged belly are realistically chased and engraved, the eyes are represented by two cut rubies.
Corresponding chain with gold beads and lancet-shaped elements that are decorated with translucent red and blue enamel on engine-turned pattern. Length 270 mm.
The condition of this scarab is exceptionally good. As these watches were worn as pendants and the opening wings subjected to wear and tear all the time, it is very unusual to find a piece where the enamel has not been restored.
