Lot 523

August von Loehr, "Remontoir Automatique", Vienna, Movement No. 614, Case No. 614, 48 x 48 mm, 126 g, circa 1900
A square pocket watch with automatic winding by oscillating weight pedometer system
Case: silver, lavishly florally engraved, raptorial bird decoration. Dial: enamel, power reserve indicator. Movm.: square movement, pedometer system with oscillating weight, gold screw compensation balance.
Always an eye-catcher: square-cased pocket watches by August von Loehr (1847-1917), which are always beautifully decorated. Loehr’s patents intended to eliminate some of the weak points of the self-winding mechanism by improving the design of the system (which had been around for a number of decades); he sold several thousands of his watches, which is remarkable for this type of timekeeper.
