This masterpiece is an example of supreme skill and craftsmanship - not only with regard to the technical aspects but also in view of the excellent execution goldsmith’s and jeweller’s work. This pocket watch is perfect for travelling because a concealed hinge in the bow lets it be used as a stand for the watch, so that it serves as a table clock. It is most likely a custom-made piece - according to the consignor it was made for His Royal Highness Pengiran Digadong Sahibul Mal Pengiran Muda Sharif Jefri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, the brother of the Sultan of Brunei (born on November 6, 1954). The watch is embellished with 85 brilliant cut diamonds and 52 baguette sapphires with a total of 18.2 carat. The signed dial is allover set with diamonds and has sapphire hour markers; four blue subsidiary dials display the day of the week at 9 o’clock, month and leap year at 12, date at 3 and small second, moon age and moon phase at 6 o’clock.
Prince Jefri is known for his extravagant lifestyle. His personal holdings included a huge art collection, the British jeweller Asprey, the New York Palace Hotel, Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles and Plaza Athénée in Paris. He is married to three wives and divorced from two others and has eighteen children.
