Rolex "Oyster Perpetual DATEJUST officially certified Chronometer", Movement No. 79749, Case No. 903321, Ref. 6105, 35 mm, circa 1953
An extremely rare bi-color vintage automatic wristwatch with red/black alternating date, so called "Ovettone", sold on August 22nd, 1953. This watch is one of first DAYTONA models. In April 2019 the watch was given an overhaul - with original Rolex chronometer certification, Bulletin de Marche Observatory Bienne, dated February 20th 1953 and original Rolex warranty booklet by Bucherer with in-house stock number
Case: steel, reeded 18k gold bezel, screw back ref. 6105, screwed "Twinlock" winding crown, oversized folded "Jubilee" steel/14k gold bracelet, clasp dated 1/54, bracelet length 140 mm, total length 175 mm. Dial: silvered.
This is the first time that this vintage wristwatch is offered at an auction. It was with its original owner for 50 years and despite its age the watch is in excellent, well looked after condition.
Reference 6105 is not only one of the rarest of the vintage Rolex models but also one of the most wearable and striking designs - thanks to its generous proportions. It is one of the first DATEJUSTS and the large version of the Bubble Back, the Ovettone (large bubble), as the collectors like to call it. This rare bi-colour example features a charmingly aged, silvered dial with alternative red and black numerals on the date disc – a marvellous timepiece for a discerning collector or for a lover of fine watches.
