Louis Eschholz, Hannover

, Case No. 54741, 56 mm, 168 g, circa 1885

A magnificent minute repeating hunting case pocket watch made for Gebhard Huber

Case: 18k gold. Dial: silver. Movm.: bridge movement, 2 hammers / 2 gongs, gold screw compensation balance.

This chased and lavishly decorated gold case is inscribed with a ducal crown and the words "Souvenir de G. H. 1885" on the inside. Particularly striking are the rose gold letters that indicate the hours "Gebhard Huber" on the opulent yellow and white gold dial.

The Huber family of Lindenberg were horse traders for over 100 years; the three brothers Antonio, Martino and Gebhard Huber operated one of the biggest horse-trading businesses in Europe to the end of the 19th century. When his brothers died, Gebhard continued to run the company in Milan, however, he was forced to emigrate to Switzerland when Italy entered the war. He died at the age of 86 and was buried in the family plot in Hanover.
