This is a lot of a former auction!

Thomas Kirchheim, London, Height 2440 mm

, circa 1810

A solide and impressing "Biedermeier" long case clock with hour strike, moon phase and date

Case: walnut. Dial: brass, engraved, applied gilt ornaments with masks, blued pierced hands. Movm.: rectangular-shaped brass movement, 2 hammers / 1 bell, lever escapement, brass pendulum rod and brass bob, pendulum spring suspension.

There is little information on the life of Thomas Kirchheim; we know of some plate clocks and pocket watches dating from the first half of the 17th century that are signed "Kirchheim, Mainz". It is not certain that Kirchheim or his son ever did work in England and when. There is, however, a pocket watch with the Royal Arms of England with the lion and the unicorn.

The gabled top part of this long case clock is made from different types of fine wood and is surrounded by columns, giving the clock a solid and dignified appearance. It has a magnificent dial and a resounding hour strike which can be switched off. Whether it stands in a modern or a traditional environment, with a height of nearly two and a half metres this clock certainly requires ample space.
