A French hunting case pocket watch - lever chronometer
Case: 18k gold. Dial: enamel. Movm.: bridge movement, screw compensation balance, blued helical balance spring.
The Besançon-based company Antoine Frères was founded in 1880 by brothers Ernest and Jules Antoine. It had its premises at Rue Morcey 5 and conducted business until around 1914. In 1897 Antoine Frères obtained a patent for a mechanism with power reserve; in 1889 it received a special award at the World Exhibition in Paris. In 1890 Ernest published his "Etudes sur l’horlogerie, le réglage" and in 1897 he released an article on the angular velocity of balances.
