A one-handed Renaissance "clock-watch" of museum quality with wheel balance and stackfreed
Case: brass, firegilt, allover rich open work floral engraving, decorated with flowers, foliage, fruit, animal motifs and carytids; the top with spoke-shaped open work detail showing the hours. Dial: gilt brass, chapter ring with inlaid radial Roman hours I - XII and Arabic hours 13 - 24. Movm.: full plate brass movement, gilt, iron train, open barrel, stackfreed, verge escapement, iron balance and hog's bristle.
The cover for the dial is flamboyantly decorated with open-work floral gold fillets with caryatids and winged lions; equally striking is the intricately ornamented base with countless caryatids and laughing devil masks. The open-work floral band shows different animals: hare, fox, bear, stag and unicorn.
