A very fine pair-cased quarter repeating verge pocket watch with "repoussé" decoration "Telemach and Calypso" (with Mentor, an old friend of Ulysses)
Case: outer case - 20k gold, "repoussé" decoration, engraved and chased volutes and scrollwork. Inner case - 20k gold, around the edge open work decoration, engraved volutes and scrollwork, cartouche with engraved mascaron, rear bell, movement protection cap. Dial: gold champlevé. Movm.: full plate movement, chain/fusee, 2 hammers, three-arm brass balance.
Tardy’s "Dictionnaire des Horlogers Francais" lists Jean Louis Argand in Geneva and Paris, where he also accepted commissions. Argand was active from 1760 to 1777.
