A very fine, large and heavy hunting case pocket watch with perpetual calendar, moon phase and chronograph, made for the Peruvian physician Jose B. Unánue
Case: 18k gold, enamelled monogram "BJU", signed gold dome with engraving: "J. B. Unánue", glazed movement. Dial: enamel, cobalt blue enamelled moon phase disc with inlaid golden moon and stars. Movm.: bridge movement, anti-magnetic balance spring, gold screw compensation balance.
Bernard Poitevin was a renowned watch- and chronometer maker in Paris who was active from around 1850 until 1890. He produced high quality watches with complications such as striking mechanisms, chronographs and chronometers with Bulletin de Marche 1st class from the observatory in Geneva. His successor from 1880 on was Rizzoli Dechamps, whose creations were famous enough to bring about orders from countries as far as Peru.
