International Watch Co., Schaffhausen "Fliegeruhr Doppelchronograph", Case No. 5070369, Ref. IW377801, Cal. 79420, 46 mm, circa 2012
An aviator's as new automatic wristwatch with date and split seconds chronograph with 30 minutes and 12 hours counter - with original box, operating instructions and blank guarantee card
Case: steel, screw back, screwed crown, original IWC steel deployant clasp. Dial: black. Movm.: rotorwind movement, Glucydur balance.
The cockpit of the legendary aircraft Ju 52 was the inspiration behind the development of the first IWC Pilot’s Watches. Their functional design has defined the genre to this day.
Overall, the three signal red elements make the dial appear even more attractive. In the subdial at "9" is a small permanent seconds which confirms that the movement is functioning correctly. New additions include the red tip of the chronograph seconds hand and the red triangle used to read off the vertical triple date display, which is distinctly reminiscent of the altimeter found in an aircraft cockpit. The hands are completely coated with luminescent material and guarantee excellent legibility even when visibility is poor.
A particularly conspicuous feature on the double chronograph is the third pushbutton at "10". With its soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields and sapphire glass secured against sudden drops in pressure, the double chronograph has all the features needed in a watch designed for flying.
