A decorative pair-cased verge pocket watch "à quatre couleurs" Case: outer case - brass, gilt, glazed, the frame on the front and back side lined with tortoiseshell, large lateral hinge. Inner case - gold, chased decoration in high relief "à quatre couleurs", on the back side an oval medallion framed by garlands: Venus and Cupid at the altar of love, large lateral hinge. Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, Louis XVI hands. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, firegilt, signed, chain/fusee, moulded movement pillars, three-arm brass balance, engraved and florally pierced balance bridge.
Christian Heinrich Weisse Christian Heinrich Weisse was born in 1724 into a well-known clockmaking family. He became a master in 1775 and died in 1793. The family continued the watchmaking tradition until the end of the 19th century. Their story is described in an article in Allgemeines Journal der Uhrmacherkunst, 1906, No. 5.
