A gentleman's important double dial pocket watch with four automatons "The Dutch Kitchen" Case: 18k pink gold, tiered, glazed back with automaton: genre scene "á quatre couleurs" of a Dutch kitchen with a cook sitting in a chair and stirring a pot next to an open fire, while a dog in a wheel turns a chicken on the spit; in the foreground a chased scene with a cat and a dog beneath a basket with vegetables; background with a very finely painted enamel scene showing the interior of the kitchen and a man watching from a window; the automaton is activated by pressing the pendant. Dial: enamel, Arabic numerals, retrograde regulator scale, double serpentine gold hands. Movm.: bridge movement, keywind, gilt, chain/fusee, solid moulded pillars, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance.
"The Kitchen" is one of the most successful automata produced in Geneva in the early 19th century. There are fewer than a dozen "Kitchen" automata known.
