A very fine, heavy minute repeating hunting case pocket watch
Case: 18k rose gold, tiered, polished, à goutte, slide for repeating mechanism, case maker's punch mark "JJ", glazed movement, inner lid with dedication engraving: "Amos Lawrence Hopkins, 1881". Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, blued Breguet hands. Movm.: bridge movement, rhodium-plated, "fausses côtes" decoration, 2 hammers / 2 gongs, gold screw compensation balance, counterpoised lever.
Amos Lawrence Hopkins
Amos Lawrence Hopkins was a railroad investor and officer, affiliated with the Jay Gould organization until 1889, when he retired to Williamstown (where he had been born) and acquired extensive land holdings. He returned to the railroad business in the 1890s and became President of the New York, Susquehanna, and Western Railroad Company, and receiver of the Chicago and Northern Pacific Railroad.
