class=a1> An extraordinary heavy pair-cased pocket watch
class=a1> Case: outer case - silver, polished, case maker's punch mark "WB/CH" (William Bush / Charles Hazle, Bowling Green Lane, Clerkenwell), dedication engraving on the back side: "Ja(me)s Rhodes, Halifax, 1866". Inner case - silver, polished, case maker's punch mark "WB/CH" (William Bush / Charles Hazle, Bowling Green Lane, Clerkenwell). Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, blued spade hands. Movm.: full plate movement, signed, gilt, chain/fusee, round movement pillars, English lever escapement, three-arm steel balance, engraved balance cock, diamond endstone on balance.

class=a1> The watchmaker Thomas Oliver worked in London, 17 Fleet Street around 1785 in partnership with Joseph West. From 1790 till 1800 he worked in 2 Brook Street, Hanover Square; after that he is supposed to have a shop in New Bond Street.
