Edward Tomlin
Edward Tomlin first worked in Bartholomew Lane, north of St. Paul’s Cathedral, and then from 1770 until 1798 in 69 Threadneedle Street, Royal Exchange. Tomlin was a member of the Clockmakers' Company from 1768 to 1781; he was known for his superb pocket watches as well as for his clocks. One of his bracket clocks is illustrated in "English Domestic Clocks" by Cescinsky & Webster (London, 1914); two of Tomlin’s musical clocks are owned by the Peiping Museum and the Science Museum in Kensington holds a cylinder pocket watch by Tomlin.

The Wedding of Alexander and Roxana
Roxana was the daughter of a Sogdian noble (in today’s Uzbekistan). Legend has it that she was the only woman Alexander ever truly loved. He made Roxana his wife after seeing her dance at a banquet; the marriage secured peace between Europe and Asia.
