This is a lot of a former auction!

John Arnold & Son, London, Invt. et Fecit

, Movement No. 440/741, 51 mm, 135 g, circa 1792

An important pocket chronometer "of the second kind" - with YZ-balance

Case: silver consular case, case maker's punch mark "JB WW" (Josiah Barnett & William Waters). Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, blued spade hands. Movm.: full plate movement, firegilt, numbered, signed, screwed chatons, chain/fusee, moulded pillars, Arnold's spring detent escapement, YZ balance with 3 cylindrical weights on threaded rods and 3 screws, freesprung gold balance spring with terminal curve, very finely engraved and pierced balance cock, chatoned diamond endstone on balance.

Sterling silver consular case, HM London, 1848. Casemakers Josiah Barnett & William Waters. Pendant maker James Overan. The case with two gold hinges and the dial were probably produced specially for this movement in 1848; the original case was most likely replaced because it was damaged or with the intention to "modernize" the piece.
