A pair-cased pocket watch of high-quality with rack lever escapement according to Peter Litherland


Case: outer case - 18k gold, polished, engraved monogram and hatchment, à goutte, large lateral hinge. Inner case - 18K gold, polished, case maker's punch mark "TA", ball-shaped pendant with pointed oval neck, movement protection cap. Dial: gold, engine-turned centre with floral engravings, applied radial Roman numerals, auxiliary seconds, blued serpent hands. Movm.: fine full plate movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, signed, chain/fusee, round pillars, "Liverpool windows", gold three-arm ring balance, fine florally engraved balance cock, regulator tail according to Bosley with compensation curb, chatoned diamond endstone on balance.

According to Brian Loome’s "Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World", Robert Westmore & Son worked in Preston, Lancashire from 1794 until 1825. There were a number of watchmakers by the name of Westmore in Lancashire who were very active; presumably they were all related to each other. They are mentioned in Lancaster, Preston and Fazakerly from 1761 until 1827.
