Julien Huguenin à Paris, Case No. 1673, 66 mm, 209 g, circa 1830
An important and large pocket chronometer - most likely a masterpiece - with varation of the pivoted detent escapement according to Louis Berthoud, "Construit à Paris en 1830 par Julien Huguenin"
Case: silver, engine-turned, gold hinges. Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, signed, blued Breguet hands. Movm.: bridge movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, 10 jewels, pivoted detent chronometer escapement, three-armed bimetallic chronometer balance with 3 platinum screws and 3 movable weights, blued freesprung helical hairspring with terminal curves.
This pivoted detent is an advancement of Louis Berthoud’s mechanism. The watch is illustrated in "Marine- und Taschenchronometer" by Hans von Bertele, Munich, 1981, page 206.
