, Case No. 2508, Breguet No. B1732, 55 mm, 140 g, circa 1806

A gentleman's fine quarter repeating "à toc" pocket watch with ruby cylinder escapement - sold on August 10, 1806 for 1600 Francs to Monsieur Bazilio, an important customer of the firm - with Breguet extract from the archives

Case: 18k rose gold, engine-turned, engine-turned band, case maker's punch mark "PBT" (Pierre-Benjamin Tavernier), pusher for repetition via pull and twist piston in the pendant. Dial: gold, engine-turned centre, engraved, inlaid radial Roman numerals, signed: "Breguet et Fils", blued Breguet hands. Movm.: bridge movement, keywind, frosted, gilt, 1 hammer, shock protection-"parachute", "overhanging" ruby cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance, flat blued balance spring with temperature compensation.

This is a very good example of the firms standard repeating watch, but quite an early example of the elegant pull and twist pendant. The Breguet workbooks show that this watch was sold on August 10th, 1806, to a Mr Bazilio, an important customer of the firm. See also the book on Breguet by Emanuel Breguet, pages 229 and 230.

This watch was sold, among others, at Sothebys New York in June 2002, lot 22 - it was Time Museum Inventory No 3141.
