This is a lot of a former auction!

Sebastian Adeldinger in Wien(n), Height 130 mm

, circa 1720

A high quality, very early Vienna carriage clock with hour self strike, repeater and alarm

Case: brass, gilt, profiled base, engraved bracket feet with volute decoration, facet glazed on four sides, arched pediment with stylized palmette finial, the angles decorated with four vase finials, rear bell. Dial: applied silver chapter ring with inlaid radial Roman hours, central silver alarm disc with radial Arabic numerals, applied silver ring to set striking or silence "Schlagt" / "Schlagt Nit" at "XII", engraved gilt mask with volute ornaments, pierced brass hands. Movm.: brass full plate movement, lavishly foliate decor engravings, gilt, keywind, chain/fusee, 2 hammers, signed, baluster movement pillars, 3 barrels for going train, hour strike and alarm, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance, fine florally engraved balance cock.

This small high quality clock is an early prototype of those Vienna carriage clocks that were later produced in such large numbers. Fortunately this piece is in its original condition, it has never been restored or tinkered with - clocks like that hardly ever turn up in international auctioning. The clock is exceptional because of its highly complex movement design and the wonderful hand engraving as well as the fine proportions of the whole construction.
