A very fine precision regulator with a compensation pendulum delivered by Strasser & Rohde to Stefan Knut Anderson - with instruction for the adjustment of the temperature compensation
Case: walnut, stepped, glazed on three sides, regulation scale. Dial: silvered, signed, radial Roman hours, centre seconds, blued Breguet hands. Movm.: solid trapezoid-shaped brass movement, solid movement pillars, signed, weight driven, Graham escapement with adjustable steel pallets, pendulum spring suspension.
Stefan Knut Anderson
Stefan Knut Anderson was born on December 26, 1878 in Nyköping and died 1966 in Ludvika. At the age of 20 Anderson became secretary of the Stockholm watch- and clockmakers’ association. After receiving his mastership he opened a shop in Ludvika in 1902; about this time he also became editor of the Swedish Watchmaker Publication after Bror Ericsson. Anderson was passionate about the education of watchmakers; he travelled regularly and met and formed friendship with renowned makers such as Pellaton in Switzerland and Riefler in Munich. In Berlin he got to know the Swedish watchmaker Per Cederberg who was custodian at the Berlin observatory. Anderson formed a close friendship with Professor Ludwig Strasser in Glashuette. He made at least 20 visits to Glashuette over the years and collected valuable information about the school system and other educational issues.
In Sweden he mounted a campaign for the introduction of an educational system for watchmakers; once he had collected sufficient funds, he initiated the founding of the school in Borensberg in the 1940s. The school was named Stefansskolan in his honour.
As a tribute to Anderson, a gold medal in his name was instituted that was to be given to Scandinavian watchmakers of repute.
