Clemens Riefler (1820-1876)
In 1841 Clemens Riefler founded a factory that produced ruling pens; at the time these drawing instruments were considered the finest compasses in the world. Later the company started producing precision pendulum clocks and soon Riefler ' s clocks were used in observatories all over the world as well as in research institutes that were in need of exact time measuring. The Riefler company created the most accurate mechanical clock in the world. Clemens Riefler died in 1876 and his son Sigmund and his two brothers Adolf and Theodor took over the business; Sigmund devoted himself to new developments of compasses and precision pendulum clocks.
