Jaques Hory à Paris, Height 360 mm

, circa 1662

A very early "pendule religieuse" in the Hague tradition


Case: ebonised fruitwood-veneered, moulded base, glazed front, the front door locked on the right side with a key, hinged door on the back side, moulded round gable. Dial: brass plate, covered with black velvet (later), applied silvered chapter ring with inlaid radial Roman hours, outer 60 minutes track, pierced and engraved silvered hands, mounted "lambrequin" with engraved signature covering an aperture for the controlling of the pendulum. Movm.: rectangular brass movement, signed, 110 x 65 mm, large barrel, verge escapement, keywind, baluster pillars, cycloidal cheeks, short pendulum with silk string suspension.

Also known as Ory, Ourri or Orri. On record in 1650 and 1658. Maitre Faubourg St-Jaques. Clockmaker to the court of Louis XIV 1673-1690. One of the early makrs of "pendules religieuses".
