The first member of the Jump family who was recorded as a clockmaker was Richard Huyton Jump; he worked for Benjamin Louis Vulliamy. His two sons Joseph and Richard Thomas also worked in Vulliamy’s workshop; when Vulliamy died in 1854, Joseph and Alfred, a third brother, became his successors and launched their own business. They had premises at 1a Old Bond Street and later at 55 Pall Mall; it was in the Pall Mall workshop that they created the fist of their famous carriage clocks with arched cases. At the end of the 19th century the brothers moved their business to 93 Mount Street and in 1910 Jump & Son became royal warrant holders. The firm existed until 1934.
