Gregson, Hr. du Roy à Paris, Movement No. 1803, 54 mm, 122 g, circa 1800
A gentleman's very fine quarter repeating pocket watch "à toc" with cylinder escapement
Case: 18k rose gold. Dial: enamel. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, 2 hammers, three-arm brass balance, hack feature.
The design of the dial takes its inspiration from the style of Louis Berthoud. The winding mechanism on the back has a lock that slides back when the key is inserted and re-locks when the watch is closed.
Jean Gregson
Jean-Pierre Gregson originally came from England. In 1776 he was appointed watchmaker to the king in Paris. He was one of the first watchmakers of his time to use the Lépine calibre. In 1787 Gregson founded a watch manufacture in Braille.
