A rare French military wristwatch dating from World War I, as used in the trenches
Case: silver, hinged front cover with embossed portrait of General Joseph Jacques Césaire Joffre, inscribed "J.J.C. Joffre Generalissime des Armees Francaises 1914", hinged back cover, contemporary leather strap. Dial: enamel.
The front of the watch shows the embossed portrait of French General Joseph Jacques Césaire Joffre (1852-1931), Marshal of France. Joffre held the position of supreme commander of the French army in the First World War until December 15, 1916.
