In the 1950s, Breitling launched two celebrated chronograph models which were both highly coveted by the collectors – the "Mille Miglia" and the "Giro d'Italia". Approximately 10 years later the brand introduced several models into their collection that were explicitly designed for sports purposes such as timekeepers for yachting, racing, diving and football.
The Breitling "Football" was particularly popular and available in different versions for referees, trainers and fans – the stadiums did not have electronic scoreboards yet. In time for the 1994 World Cup in the United States Breitling launched an updated "Football" model in a limited, consecutively numbered edition for the Italian market, which was styled after the design of an unreleased "Navitimer".
