P. Filassier, Height 230 mm, circa 1600
An important, probably Flemish Renaissance wall clock with hour strike and alarm, very fine engraved figures of the apostles Peter and Paul
Case: copper, firegilt, square design; front and sides elaborately decorated with winged putti heads and foliage scrolls. Front with small oval medallion showing the Virgin Mary, signed "P. Filassier". The left side with a hinged door showing a very fine engraving of the apostle Peter holding a book and a key, the right side has a matching engraving of the apostle Paul holding a sword and a book. The four corners are decorated with Tuscan pilasters; the top part of the clock has a bell and an open work dome with ribbon and carved figures of Pegasus, vases in the corners. The back has an indentation for fixing the clock to the wall. Dial: applied silver hour chapter ring with Roman numerals "I-XII". Alarm disc in the centre, engraved with wind rose and sun-ray motif, Arabic numerals, two single iron hands. Movm.: brass frame, brass weight driven going train via 3 cords, 1 hammer, count wheel for striking mechanism, rim foliot, verge escapement, side mounted alarm.
