An early square Renaissance case for a table clock
Case: brass, firegilt, square base, the front and sides elaborately decorated with grotesque engravings, scroll and strapwork; open work dome at the top covered with ribbons with engraved portraits; the right side with an aperture for winding and a little door for controlling; the removable base is decorated with an engraved wreath and a central cartouche with signature "Blais". Dial: brass, firegilt, engraved radial Roman numerals, outer ring with twelve dots for night reading, the centre with chased shafts of sunlight and an Asclepius, blued single iron hand.
