Patek Philippe Genève, "Disco Volante", Movement No. 765401, Case No. 2605352, Ref. 2551, Cal. 12-600AT, 36 mm, circa 1958
An elegant vintage automatic Geneva wristwatch - sold on January 23rd, 1959 - with Patek Philippe extract from the archives
Case: 18k gold, screw back, 18k gold PPC buckle. Dial: silvered.
This Patek Philippe watch was produced in 1958 and is part of the Calatrava family and a true vintage piece. Because of its unusual case shape the watch is nicknamed "Disco Volante", or flying saucer. The 18k gold case has the original Patek Philippe crown with the letters "PP" embossed on the side. The silvered dial has never been restored; it features applied gold indexes and gold Baton hands. The black enamel letters and the small second indexes are still raised. The watch is fitted with the earliest automatic Patek Philippe calibre 12-600AT that launched in 1953 and was also used for its predecessor and first self-winding wristwatch reference 2526. This timepiece is an altogether marvellous treasure and a true find for its new owner.
