Lot 291

Patek Philippe Genève, Movement No. 773373, Case No. 2923241, Ref. 5040, Cal. 240Q, 35 x 42 mm, circa 1993
A tonneau-shaped automatic Geneva wristwatch with perpetual calendar, leap year indicator and moon phase - with original box, original certificate, brochures, additional glazed gold push back and setting pin
Case: 18k gold, push back, 18k gold Patek Philippe buckle. Dial: silvered.
Patek Philippe began the production of reference 5040 in 1992; it was fitted with automatic calibre 240Q, which allows the wearer to set each calendar function individually with the setting pin. Its unique, elegant tonneau shape is a homage to Patek’s 1920s models. The watch was available in yellow gold, platinum, white gold and some very few red gold examples. This watch here is one of the very early ones with the much-coveted Breguet gold numerals and hands. Production was discontinued in 2007 and the model was replaced by references 5140J (2012) and 5140G (2014).
