Lot 612

Auguste Simon à Paris, Height 1240 mm, circa 1800
A rare precision regulator with 9-rod grid-iron pendulum
Dial: enamel. Movm.: circular brass plate movement, pin wheel escapement, brass pendulum bob, pendulum spring suspension.
Precision regulators such as this were usually produced for use in observatories. The movements were protected from environmental harm by a dustproof brass cap; if a wooden case was needed, it was usually built at the observatory. We know of similar examples created by Ferdinand Berthoud or Abraham Louis Breguet, which were identified as "Pendule Astronomique".
