Lot 151

Omega "Railmaster", Modell "RAF", Movement No. 13058885, Ref. 2777-1SC, Cal. 283, 37 mm, circa 1954
An extremely rare antimagnetic vintage military wristwatch with charmingly aged silvered dial and indirect centre seconds - with an extremely rare blue original box and transport carton
Case: steel, screw back, anti-magnetic protection cap. Dial: silvered.
The Omega reference 2777-1 was originally produced in 1953 for pilots and officers of the British Royal Air Force. However, production was discontinued after only one year, so no more than 5,900 examples were made altogether. Marco Richon describes the watch as a prototype of the Railmaster, in this version delivered to Canada.
The antimagnetic case has fixed lugs, which is a requirement for a watch intended for military purposes. These fixed lugs are the only difference between reference 2777-1 (for military use) and reference 2777-2, which was sold to private customers. The dial has Arabic numerals and fine rectangular luminous indices for every 15 minutes as well as circular luminous indices for every five minutes; the silvered version is exceptionally rare to find.
Illustrated and described in detail in: Marco Richon "Omega", Bienne 2007, page 221.
