Nivada SA, Grenchen "Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver", Case No. 3011, Ref. 85001, Cal. Val. R92, 38 mm, circa 1963
A vintage wristwatch for military, pilots and divers, with chronograph, 30 min. counter and tachy scale
Case: steel, screw back, turnable bezel. Dial: black.
The company Nivada was established in 1879 in Grenchen in Switzerland. In the US their dials are signed "Croton" or "Croton Nivada Grenchen", which is a reference to the company’s North American distributor in New York.
Nivada’s flagship model is the "Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver", which was launched in 1963 and produced until 1978. This chronograph can also be used as an aviator’s or diver’s watch; a number of different manual wind calibres were used for this model, such as the Valjoux 92 and 7733 or the Landeron calibre 248. The Chronomaster is fitted with a typical hour hand in the form of an arrow that was inspired by the first version of the Omega Speedmaster in the 1950s. The revolving bezel has two scales, for minutes and hours. The red 30-minute counter has a countdown function for regattas.
