Case: 18k gold, back lid with engraved imperial crown and monogram. Dial: enamel. Movm.: bridge movement, gold screw compensation balance.
Johann Friedrich Hessenberg (1810-1874) was a jeweller, mineralogist and politician in the city-state of Frankfurt. Given his experience as a jeweller, he devoted himself to research studies in the fields of mineralogy and crystallography. In 1867 Hessenberg received an honorary doctorate from the Friedrich-Wilhelm University in Berlin (today’s Humboldt University) for his academic work.
