Ulysse Nardin, "Sonata Cathedral Dual Time", Movement No. 006156, Case No. 881, Ref. 676-88, Cal. UN-67, 42 mm, circa 2007
An extraordinary, heavy and large automatic wristwatch in mint condition, with date, second time zone, musical alarm and countdown indication - with original box, leather wallet, blank guarantee and operating instructions
Case: 18k rose gold, screwed on glazed back, crown with blue enamelled Ulysse Nardin logo, original black alligator leather strap with 18k rose gold deployant clasp. Dial: grey and partly silvered with "fausses côtes" decoration.
Ulysse Nardin’s "Sonata Cathedral Dual Time" model offers the frequently travelling businessman an unusual and extravagant timepiece with a number of useful and convenient functions. The grey, partly silvered dial is spectacular, with the alarm time displayed in a subsidiary dial at 1 o’clock; the double-window date indication is positioned at 4 o’clock, while another sub-dial at 6 o’clock displays the second time zone. A fan-shaped alarm on/off indicator sits at 9 o’clock and is controlled with a button in the centre of the left crown. A sub-dial at 11 o’clock indicates a countdown to when the alarm will go off. Skeleton hands for the local time allow for a clear and unobstructed view of the dial. The automatic calibre UN-67 with 109 jewels provides a power reserve of approximately 42 hours.
It took the engineers and technicians at Ulysse Nardin nearly seven years to develop this proprietary, patented self-winding calibre, which combines the dual time function with an instant time zone adjuster and the novel alarm-setting mechanism with a countdown display. The patented dual time function allows the setting of the hour hand forward and back by simply pressing the buttons + and -. The original local time is still displayed, while date, alarm and countdown update automatically when the time zone is adjusted.
A newly developed 24-hour mechanism activates the pleasant alarm tone; the novel system allows setting the alarm 24 hours in advance, i.e., select a wake-up time in the afternoon or in the morning of the next day.
