A fine musical box with two exquisite sounding tunes and gilt relief picture "The Rape of the Sabines", after a painting of the same name by Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825) from 1799
Case: horn, hinged lid with gold opening lip; in the centre a transparent cover protects a gold-framed gilt relief: "The Rape of the Sabines". The picture bears the title "Des Sabines" and is signed "F. Morel". The front has two fine mother-of-pearl tablets: on the right for changing the tune "Choeur et ballade de Preciosa" by Carl Maria von Weber / Walzer (Waltz)", on the left for activating the musical movement. Winding square in the base. Movm.: pinned cylinder, 70 vibrating blades, two-arm governor.
