, circa 1680An important square cased table clock with hour self strike and alarm
Case: firegilt brass case, tiered, the sides with screwed on large windows, scroll feet with devil's heads in the shape of billy goats at each of the 4 corners, 1 bell. Dial: brass, firegilt, engraved with strawberry flowers, winged cherub heads in each spandrel, silvered chapter ring with engraved radial Roman numerals, sunk alarm disc with Arabic numerals in the centre, pierced iron hand. Movm.: square brass movement, firegilt, signed, baluster-shaped movement pillars, chain/fusee, 2 barrels for hour strike and alarm, 2 hammers one of them with engraved head of a sheep, verge escapement, locking plate, blued iron parts, three-arm iron balance, florally engraved and pierced balance cock.
Johann Kesborer (Kaesborer, Kässbohrer) (1650-1732)
Kaesborer was born in Ulm in 1650 and elected senator of Ulm in 1705. He is known for a silver pocket watch and several bracket clocks. Johann Kaesborer died in 1732.
