A decorative gold enamel hunting case pocket watch with quarter repeater and date in Chinese script, produced for the Chinese market
Case: 14k gold, tiered, à goutte, front and back with delicate engraving and opaque polychrome enamelling on light blue background: front lid with two putti and a melon on a bed of leaves, back lid with a bouquet of summer flowers, gold dome, case maker's punch mark "J&Co., glazed movement. Dial: enamel, radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, gold spade hands, outer chapter ring with Chinese numerals for indication of the date with a single half-moon gold hand. Movm.: bridge movement, rhodium-plated, "fausses côtes" decoration, 2 hammers / 2 gongs, gold train, screwed gold chatons, gold screw compensation balance, counterpoised lever.
