Rolex "Oyster Perpetual 50m=165ft" DAY-DATE Superlative Chronometer BY OFFICIAL TEST", Movement No. DD607800, Case No. 134635, Ref. 6511 with "Brevet Plus" - label, Cal. 1055, 36 mm, circa 1968
A gentleman‘s important and extremely rare rose gold self-winding wristwatch with calendar - a prototype of the DAY-DATE with red DAY-DATE logo. It is an exceptionally rare timepiece; to the best of our knowledge this is one of only two copies in the world
Case: 18k rose gold, screw back reference 6510, reeded rose gold bezel, screwed "Oyster Plus" winding crown. Dial: silvered, applied rose gold and luminous indexes, centre seconds, signed, window for date and day of the week in Italian, luminous leaf hands. Movm.: rotorwind movement, rhodium-plated, ground, 8 adj., 25 jewels, Glucydur screw balance with regulation screws, shock protection for balance.
The watch is one of the very first DAY-DATE models with reference 6511, in the same year when the patent was applied for, so that this is one of the very first Day-Dates ever; the second generation watches with ref. 6511 are already different. It is more or less the prototype of the Day-Date, which is also apparent from the writing on the dial. It is said that the watch is authentic only if it has the Italian day of the week disc.
