Lot 353

International Watch Co., "IWC" Probus-Scafusia / 1 ère Classe Beyer-Zürich, Movement No. 433514, Case No. 455908, 51 mm, 94 g, circa 1909
A gentleman's fine Schaffhausen pocket watch delivered to Beyer jewellers in Zurich
Case: silver, silver dome with dedication engraving. Dial: enamel. Movm.: divided 3/4 plate movement, screw compensation balance.
The IWC movement is rhodium-plated and lavishly decorated, a surface refinement, which is hard to find at IWC. A fine and generous gift by textile manufacturer Schafroth in Burgdorf, to his employee Jakob Hug for 38 years with the company. Equally enjoyable to look at is the Châlet Schafroth in Burgdorf - open to visitors for some years now - which is a magnificent example of the lustre of the belle époque.
