Lieutaud à Paris
, Movement No. 502, Case No. 277, 37 mm, 45 g, circa 1779An exquisite French gold enamel verge pocket watch with corresponding four-part 22k gold enamel chatelaine with original key
Case: 22k gold, case maker's punch mark "LFL". Dial: enamel. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, three-arm brass balance.
This marvellous ensemble in excellent condition is decorated with a lavish engine-turned pattern with translucent blue enamelling and a border of opaque white enamel pearls. The watch shows a central diamond rose ornament and also has diamonds on the pendant and on the pushers that open the case. A perfectly preserved guild mark proves that the watch case was made in 1779; the charge mark is that of Jean-Baptiste Fouache (1775-1781).
Jean Joseph Lieutaud was based at the "Cour Abbatiale de Saint-Germain-des-Prés" in Paris. He became a master in 1764 and worked until 1789. On July 9, 1767 Lietaud rented a house in the Rue de Bussy from Jérôme de Beyne for 1300 Livres.
