Lot 140

French, Case No. 5000, 58 mm, 140 g, circa 1820
A gentleman's highly attractive quarter repeating pocket watch with musical movement
Case: 18k rose gold, case maker's punch mark "FLB". Dial: gold, enamel cartouches. Movm.: full plate movement, keywind, chain/fusee, 2 hammers / 2 gongs, applied rack strike with polished steel levers, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance, fine florally engraved barrel with pinned disc for music.
The gold dial is exquisitely engraved with a radial pattern of diamond-shaped white enamel cartouches that seem to be dancing to a happy tune. In the centre is a painted polychrome enamel medallion: a shepherd playing the flute on the banks of a lake, with farm buildings and mountains in the background.
