Rolex "Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master officially certified Chronometer", Movement No. N694384, Case No. 212540, Ref. 6542, Cal. 1030, 39 mm, circa 1956
A very attractive, automatic vintage wristwatch with "Pepsi" bezel, 24h indicator and black/red date - without crown guard
Case: steel, screw back ref. 6542 IV 56, turnable two-coloured bezel with radial Arabic 24 hours, screwed "Twinlock" winding crown, folded steel "Jubilee" bracelet, stamped 2/67. Dial: black, gloss finish, warm luminous indexes, long and slim red 24-hour hand, luminous Mercedes hands. Movm.: rotorwind movement, Glucydur screw balance.
The present watch is one of the first examples of GMT-Master, reference 6542 and the most sought after Rolex GMT Master model.
First produced in 1954, reference 6542 was developed for Pan-Am Airlines after the company requested a reliable watch that could display more than one time zone at once (for use on transatlantic flights). Since then, the GMT has gone through countless variations.
It's instantly recognizable by the long and slim hand for the second timezone, and the lack of crown guards on the case.
