Les Frères Colladon à Genève, Case No. 6719, 45 mm, 94 g, circa 1770
A striking gold enamel pair-cased verge pocket watch with quarter repeater
Case: outer case - 18k gold and enamel. Inner case - 18k gold, pierced, engraved, finely executed foliage scrolls, rear bell, movement protection cap. Dial: enamel. Movm.: full plate movement, chain/fusee, 2 hammers, three-arm brass balance.
The oval enamel medallion on the back of the outer case shows an "en grisaille" allegory of sculpture: a young boy works on a bust in his studio. The wide, engraved gold frame is ornamented with polychrome opaque and translucent "basse-taille" enamel petals and leaves.
The brothers François et Jean-Etienne Colladon were both watchmakers in Geneva and traded under the brand name "Les Frères Colladon" (1762-1779).
